My Journey to the North Pole!

By Aniruddha

Hello people, I would like to tell about my horrifying, dreadful, shocking journey.  It was ghastly, frightful, and unpleasant. At least it is done, here is the story.
Once I got a call from Santa, who asked me, “Can you do a case in the North Pole?” He called me because I am the greatest detective in the world. Santa was getting complaints from his elves that the gifts they made for kids around the world were getting stolen. I said “Of course, Santa, any time.”
At 7 PM on December 12, 2033, I rode on the Polar Express to the North Pole to help Santa find the thief. At the Arctic Ocean, in the middle of the train ride, 3 railway tracks were broken. So, the tough part of my journey was that I had to walk on frozen ground all the way to the North Pole. It was very cold and dark and so windy that my jacket almost flew off of me.
After reaching the North Pole, I stayed at Santa’s house and recovered by drinking hot chocolate and eating Christmas fruitcake. We traced the footsteps near Santa’s Elves’ factory and found that they were very small. At nighttime, we hid on trees wearing night-vision glasses and saw someone running away with a sack. I jumped down the tree and caught the thief. He was an elf from Santa’s factory! Santa scolded him and he promised never to steal again.
I rode back on the Polar Express and luckily, this time, the tracks were fixed. So, I had a comfortable journey back. It was fun meeting Santa and his elves – I hope to go again soon!

My Adventure with Rook, my Assistant Robot

By Aniruddha

I would like to tell you about an adventure I had with my assistant, who is a robot. It was the skillful adventure I ever had and I would like to thank, Rook, my robot, for helping me with it.
Rook is a really intelligent robot – his brain is a computer which can store lots of data and does math faster than most humans. He is 5 ft tall and orange in color. He talks very funny and beeps after every sentence. He is a great companion - he does my homework, plays soccer and chess with me, and even does my laundry.
On July 18th, 2022, a police officer knocked on my door. He had come to ask for my help in solving a case that they were having trouble with- a rich and famous Olympic player had lost 3 out of his 9 Olympic gold medals. I promised the police that I and my assistant, Rook, would definitely help with the case. I and Rook went to meet Troy Welches, the Olympic player, at his house. We looked at the display case from which the medals were stolen. The other display case was locked and had the remaining 6 medals. We found a broken window next to the display case.
Just then, Rook found fingerprints on the display case and footprints outside the window. He stored these in his memory. We inferred that a thief had broken the window and stolen the medals. That night, me, Rook and Troy, hid under a desk in the room, where the remaining medals were stored. Just then, somebody came in through the broken window and tiptoed to the display case. Rook jumped up and caught his leg and I turned on the lights! The thief was Troy’s old coach! He thought the gold medals should belong to him instead since he had coached Troy when he won them. We called the police and then Troy got back his stolen medals.
The police officer thanked me and Rook for the hard work we did in solving the case. I played a game of chess with Rook and let him win, to thank him for his help with the case! I hope I have many more adventures with my robot, Rook!

A Pet for Me

By Aniruddha

Guess what my favorite pet is? It’s a fish! Yes, I really like fishes and want some for a pet.
I do like cats and dogs a lot but I can’t get dogs as my pets since I am allergic to dog fur. Also, my sister is very scared of cats and dogs. It is also very hard to take care of dogs and cats.
I like to watch fishes waving their fins while swimming in the water. They swim so easily and I’m not a good swimmer like them, so it’s fun to watch them do it. I like various types and colors of fishes. My favorite kind of fish is a clown fish, like the one in “Finding Nemo”.
I need to buy a fish bowl for my fish to live in. I saw some nice ones at PetCo. I am going to learn to change the water in the fish bowl weekly. I also need to remember to feed them 3 times a day. I will enjoy watching my pet swim around in the fish bowl.
Fishes are fascinating creatures and I look forward to getting a fish for my pet. I will take good care of it and appreciate its talent and spend time watching and talking to it.

Our Progress through Time

By Aniruddha Pochimcherla (Grade 4)

Hello, friends and artists! I would like to tell you about an artist named Leonardo Da Vinci. He was born on April 15, 1452, in the region of Tuscany in Italy. He lived from 1452 to 1519 and was a great artist, writer, scientist and sculpture maker.
I chose Leonardo da Vinci because he was one of the most famous and brilliant artists of all times. His style of art was called Renaissance art. As he was also a scientist, his drawings looked very real. Another great artist of Leonardo da Vinci’s time was Michelangelo.  Michelangelo was also a Renaissance artist and he was excellent at drawing human figures and sculpture. The difference between the two was that Leonardo da Vinci was more interested in science and drew realistic figures while Michelangelo drew more artistic figures like Gods.
The greatest painting by Leonardo da Vinci is the “Mona Lisa”. It is also one of the most famous paintings in the world. “Mona Lisa” was painted using oils on a poplar panel. Leonardo Da Vinci used a pyramid design to put the lady in the painting. Her folded hands form the front corner of the pyramid. The rest of the painting, like the background and her clothes are dark, while “Mona Lisa” is white and so it is very easy to notice her face. The painting is also very famous for the lady’s smile because she seems to be looking at you directly.
When I look at Mona Lisa, I feel like she is very mysterious. I really feel that if he painted a portrait of me it would look just like me. I thought he was a brilliant artist after I learned about the Mona Lisa and how brilliantly he painted it.

How to make a Kite

By Aniruddha Pochimcherla, Grade 4

I would like to tell you how to make a kite. If you want to make one, then read this expository text!

First take 2 dowel rods. The bigger the dowel rods, the bigger your kite. Then make notches, one to each side for both rods.

Then put string into the notches until there is enough to hold the dowel rods together. Then glue them, and put string around the glue in the middle to be extra careful.

Then cut out diamond shaped paper, a little taller than your dowel rods together. Glue it on top of the dowel rods together, poke 4 holes next to each together (2 on top and 2 under the top ones). Take 1 end of a string, loop it through 1 set of holes, tie a knot, loop another string through the bottom, 2 holes, and tie both strings together. Now you're ready to fly your kite!

Then wait for a windy day. Then go out to fly your kite and watch your kite soar high in the sky.
